The rapid growth of industrialisation and urbanisation and a significant increase in agricultural production in East Asia have caused a remarkable increase in SO2 and NOX emissions during past several decades. The consequences of these growing emissions have been closely connected with enforced acidification loading in ecosystems and that results in actual and potential risk on many sensitive ecosystems. Until now only some preliminary attempts have been made to calculate the acidification loading in Asia. Thus, the main goal of this international project is to gather the existing information on the acid deposition and ecosystem sensitivity in East Asia from the national research teams. This volume will provide useful information in developing more profound insight into the complexity of air pollution and its interaction with ecosystems in East Asia.
